Coccidioidomycosis Screen and Titer

Code
CT535
Results

Country
CA
Container
Serum in red top or serum separator
Specimen
0.5 mL serum
Description
Serology by agar gel immunodiffusion is used most frequently to screen for exposure to Coccidoides. This is a titer test for antibodies directed against Coccidioides immitis (aka Valley Fever). The screening test is run on undiluted serum. If positive, the test is repeated on a diluted serum to determine the antibody titer. Identification of organisms is the preferred way to make a diagnosis. However, organisms are typically difficult to find. The prevalence of coccidioidomycosis in cats is much lower than in dogs.
