Container
Urine in white top
Specimen
2.0 mL urine
Description
This test is not specific for transitional cell carcinoma. False-positive results may occur in the presence of proteinuria, aciduria, urinary tract infection, and hematuria. Definitive diagnosis of transitional cell carcinoma requires further workup (i.e., radiographs, ultrasound, cytology, or histology).

Blastomyces Antibody

Country
CA
Container
Serum in red top or serum separator
Specimen
0.5 mL serum
Description
To investigate the possibility of blastomycosis as the cause of clinical signs. The blastomyces antibody test is specific (few false positives) but not highly sensitive (sensitivity ~60 to 70%) for blastomycosis. A definitive diagnosis of blastomycosis is based on the demonstration of the organism in cytologic or histopathologic specimens. A combination of supportive history and clinical signs, suggestive radiographic findings, plus positive serology may be substituted for organism identification. The blastomyces antigen test is preferred to the antibody test for serologic diagnosis of blastomycosis.

Blood Type, Canine DEA 1.1 Only

Code
CT315
Results
2-4 Days
Country
CA
Container
Lavender top
Component
DEA 1.1
Specimen
1.0 mL whole blood
Description
This test determines the appropriateness of canine blood donors prior to transfusion. Dog Erythrocyte Antigen (DEA) 1.1 is the most antigenic blood group in dogs, and canine blood donors are often screened to see if they are positive or negative for this blood group. Dogs that are positive for DEA 1.1 should only be used as donors for recipients that are also DEA 1.1 positive. This is not the same as a universal donor. Complete blood typing is required to identify universal donors. Cross-matching is still advised even if the donor has the appropriate blood type.
